If you weren’t a Billie Eilish fan before, chances are that her recent album, Hit Me Hard and Soft has won you over. Not only was the record stacked with back-to-back bops, but it was accompanied by a months-long press tour that has seen Billie battle her brother in a Hot Ones challenge, go on a Chicken Shop Date with Amelia Dimoldenberg and open up about her life and art in a series of candid interviews.

Naturally, throughout the latter, the 22-year-old has answered questions about her sexuality, past partners and current relationship status. This has got fans (us included) speculating as to who some of HMHAS’s tracks might be about, and reignited interest in the musician’s dating life. If you’re just as nosy as we are then you’re in luck—scroll on for a breakdown of everything we know about Billie’s love life.

Who Is Billie Eilish Dating?

Despite the bevy of internet theories linking her to everyone from Odessa A’zion (who, to be fair, she did post a video to Instagram of herself touching tongues with last year) to Clairo, Billie Eilish is currently thought to be single. In her April 2024 Rolling Stone cover story she joked that she is “never dating again” and given the state of the current dating scene, we can’t blame her.

“I don’t see myself being serious with anyone until I find someone that really feels right to me, and that is not interesting to me right now,” she told the publication.

Even if she was in a relationship, it is likely we wouldn’t know. Aside from her most recent boyfriend, Jesse Rutherford, Billie has largely kept her romances out of the public eye. In 2020, she said in an interview on Capital Breakfast With Roman Kemp that this is intentional.

“I definitely want to keep [my dating life] private. I’ve had relationships and kept them private, and even the ones that I’ve had, with the tiny amount that I’ve let the world see, I regret,” she told the radio show. “I think about the people that have made their relationships public, and then they break up, and it’s like, ‘What if it goes bad?’ ”

With that being said, Billie has had several relationships that we know of. Scroll on for all the details.

Billie Eilish's Dating History

Jesse Rutherford: October 2022–May 2023

Billie Eilish’s most recent confirmed boyfriend was The Neighbourhood frontman Jesse Rutherford. The two are thought to have began dating in October 2022, with the public clueing in when they were papped kissing in a Los Angeles car park. Billie confirmed the rumours on November 1 when we shared a photo of her and Jesse, who is 10 years her senior, dressed up as a baby and old man, respectively, for Halloween.

In addition to being one of her most controversial, the relationship was Billie’s most public, with her famously referencing the singer in her annual Vanity Fair interview series in 2022. In the video interview, the Oscar-winner remarked she “pulled his ass.”

“I managed to get my way to a point in my life, my life to a point, where I not only was known by a person that I thought was the hottest fucking fucker alive, but pulled his ass,” she said. “Are you kidding me? Can we just, round of applause for me?”

The couple also attended several events together, including the 2022 LACMA Gala, where they wore matching Gucci PJs.

Despite the PDA, it was not meant to be. Billie and Jesse split in May 2023 and the following Halloween, she was snapped arm-in-arm at a party with his other ex girlfriend, Devon Lee Carlson. She doesn’t see Rutherford as the ‘Bad Guy’ though. In an unpublished excerpt from her Rolling Stone  cover story, she said the pair remain friends.

Matthew Tyler Vorce: April 2021 –May 2022

Billie Eilish and actor Matthew Tyler Vorce first sparked dating rumours in April 2021 when they were snapped grabbing coffee together in Los Angeles.

Neither Billie nor Matthew ever addressed reports they were dating however, when reports surfaced that they had split in May 2022, the ‘Bad Guy’ singer took to her Instagram stories to ask fans “to be nice to people no matter what!”

Billie Eilish gave fans into her relationship with Brandon Quention Adams—who is better known as “Q” or by his rapper name, 7:AMP—in her 2021 Apple TV+ documentary, Billie EIlish: The World’s a Little Blurry.

At the time of the doco, Billie and Q had been broken up for around two years. The film indicates the pair had faced tension leading to the breakdown of the union, with cameras following the singer through her heartbreak.

“I just wasn’t happy. I didn’t want the same things he wanted, and I don’t think that’s fair for him,” Billie—who was 17 at the time, while Q was 22—explained in the documentary. “I don’t think you should be in a relationship super excited about things that the other person couldn’t care less about. … There was just a lack of effort.”

She continued: “I do love him, though, which made it harder. I’m not over him; I didn’t find someone else. I didn’t stop having love for him. I just spent time away from him for a little bit, and I was like, ‘Wow! I’m missing so much because I’m worried about you all the time, and I don’t want what you want, and you don’t want what I want.’ I don’t want to fix him. I can’t fix him. I tried.”

While the pair’s relationship was unbeknownst to the public prior to the release of The World’s A Little Blurry, Billie had actually featured on one of Q’s album covers, which was released in February 2019.

Billie Eilish Sexuality

Billie Eilish first touched on her sexuality in a Variety cover story last November. She told the publication: “I never felt like I could relate to girls very well. I love them so much. I love them as people. I’m attracted to them as people. I’m attracted to them for real.”

She was then asked about these comments on the red carpet at Variety’s Hitmakers event the following month, with a reporter asking if she meant to “come out.”

That night, Billie took to Instagram to slam the question. The singer wrote: “thanks variety for my award and for also outing me on a red carpet at 11 am instead of talking about anything else that matters i like boys and girls leave me alone about it please literally who cares stream “what was i made for””.

The ‘BIRDS OF A FEATHER’ hitmaker later opened up more in her aforementioned Rolling Stone interview. She told the magazine that writing her song ‘LUNCH’—in which she sings about a girl who she has a “craving not a crush” on—helped her come out publicly.

“That song was actually part of what helped me become who I am, to be real,” Billie told the magazine. “I wrote some of it before even doing it with a girl, and then wrote the rest after.”

“I’ve been in love with girls for my whole life,” she added. “But I just didn’t understand … I was never planning on talking about my sexuality ever, in a million years.”
